Channeling the epic, "stadium-pop" sound that Rory Wynne has been cultivating over the course of his career, "Roses" is a synth-infused anthem with all the makings of a timeless hit. Whilst the track follows a modern, pop-conventional structure, the use of vintage tones and layered electronic soundscapes adds some glittering flair to the already classy production. The electric guitars and drums are relatively low-key in comparison to Wynne's previous releases, allowing the synth lead part and Wynne's signature vocals to become the standout features of the track.
With each release we experience another level of sophistication, particularly in relation to the songwriting, and this clearly shines through on "Roses". Meaningful lyrics are delivered best with enduring vocal melodies, and these are factors that Wynne executes skilfully as both a songwriter and producer. Set-back female vocals harmonise throughout the majority of the single, and are particularly prominent in the bridge, adding extra emotive quality to that section.
"It’s a chase - and all the feelings involved in that - hope, uncertainty etc. as well as regret about the mistakes you made along the way" Wynne explains. "I think everyone can relate to that, we’ve all been there."
